How long are sessions and how often will we meet?
Sessions are typically 40-60 minutes. Most clients start with weekly sessions, though frequency can be adjusted based on needs and progress.
Do you involve families in treatment?
For adolescents, family involvement is often an important part of recovery. I also offer parent sessions to support caregivers in understanding eating disorders and ways they can help. Parents may attend scheduled sessions with the client, or separate sessions can be scheduled. Frequency and duration of parent involvement is based on client needs.
What approaches do you use?
I use evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Radically Open DBT. I also take a Health at Every Size (HAES) and weight-inclusive approach and follow principles of Intuitive Eating.
What if I’m not sure I’m ready for recovery?
That’s okay. Many people feel ambivalent about change. Our work together can help you explore those feelings and take steps at your own pace.
Do you prescribe medication?
No, I do not prescribe medication. If medication might be helpful, I can collaborate with your physician or psychiatrist.
What if I need a higher level of care?
If outpatient therapy is not enough support, I will help you connect with a treatment program (residential, PHP, or IOP) and assist you in coordinating care to ensure you’re supported at every step.
How do I get started?
You can schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to see if we’re a good fit. If it feels right, we’ll schedule your first session and begin working together.
FAQs
Do you only treat eating disorders?
While eating disorders are my specialty, I also work with clients experiencing OCD, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, body image concerns, and anyone that fits with my style of therapy.
What ages do you work with?
I work with clients ages 12 and up, and I will consider younger individuals on a case by case basis.
How does virtual therapy work?
Sessions are held via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. All you need is a private space, an internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone.
Is virtual therapy effective for eating disorders?
Yes. Research shows that virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for eating disorders and related concerns. Many clients appreciate the comfort, flexibility, and accessibility of meeting from home, work, or school
Do you take insurance?
Currently, I accept Cigna, Aetna, Optum, United, Oxford, Oscar, Blue Cross, Carelon, and Quest. I am also in the process of becoming credentialed with additional providers. If I am out of network, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is a chance to get to know each other. I’ll ask about your history, current concerns, and goals. Together, we’ll create a plan for your therapy journey.
